Address by Shri CH. Vidyasagar Rao, Governor of Maharashtra at the ‘Sach Bharat Confluence’ organized by ASSOCHAM India in association with Times Foundation, Indian Merchants’ Chamber and the SREI Foundation at Hotel Trident, Nariman Point, Mumbai at 4.30 PM on Saturday 7th May 2016

Shri Sunil Kanoria, President, ASSOCHAM India, Dr H P Kanoria, Chairman, Srei Foundation, Shri Hemant Kanoria, Chairman, Srei Infra-Finance, Shri Dilip Piramal, President, Indian Merchants’ Chamber, representatives of Industry, invitees, ladies and gentlemen,

Good evening and greetings to you.

I am very happy to associate myself with the Sach Bharat initiative with its theme promoting Spirituality at Work.

The presence of representatives from the industry and members of the Merchants’ Chamber shows their commitment to Sach Bharat, and I congratulate each one of them.

I must say, I was impressed to read about the theme subject, which is very novel and interesting.

I congratulate Dr H P Kanoria, Chairman of Srei Foundation, Shri Sunil Kanoria, President of ASSOCHAM, Shri Dilip Piramal, President of the Indian Merchants’ Chamber and others for organizing this Meet on Sach Bharat.

By organizing the Sach Bharat Conference, I think, for the first time, a serious attempt has been made to bring Spirituality into Board Rooms and in work-places. This augurs well, not only for businesses, but also for the country at large.

On the 2nd October 2014, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India had launched the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan. Today, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has become a mass movement across the country. There is greater awareness about cleanliness and about the need to keep our surroundings neat and clean. The Hon’ble Prime Minister is also keen to promote ‘Swasth Bharat, Shikshit Bharat’.

Swachh Bharat and Sach Bharat are complimentary to one another, and therefore we must promote Sach Bharat with the same zeal and commitment with which we are promoting Swachch Bharat.

    Ladies and gentlemen,

The theme Sach Bharat reminds me of the verse from the holy Guru Granth Sahib: Aad Sach, Jugaad Sach, Hai Bhee Sach, Nanak Ho See Bhee Sach.

Truth (Sach) was there at the beginning of the Universe. Truth alone will be there at the end of the universe. Today also there is Truth…Oh Nanak You Are Truth yourself.

Sach or Truth is the basis of our existence. Sach is the core of our existence. We may live in the body form or we may not be there tomorrow. But Truth will be there. It is something that was neither created and so can never be destroyed.

    Ladies and gentlemen,

Sach or Spirituality is the basis of all religions.

In fact I would say, Spirituality is the only religion in the world. All modern religions are different ways to realize the Sach.

There are differences, discord, hatred and even riots in the name of religion. But there can never be riots when it comes to spirituality. There is inherent unity when we talk of spirituality or Sach.

Time has come to make ‘Sach’ the basis of our education, of our public life and of our personal life. Time has come to make Sach the basis of governance. It will make our society and our governance more humane and more caring.

Today, we see moral degradation in all walks of life. This moral degradation is manifested in the form of greed, corruption, deprivation, stress, violence against women, exploitation of the poor and so on.

‘Sach Bharat’ can help us remove the aberration and usher in a society which will be just, fair and inclusive.

As Governor and as Chancellor of Universities in Maharashtra, I will be the first person to support and encourage efforts to make spiritual values an integral part of education.

In my opinion, the first step for achieving the goal of Sach Bharat is ‘Sach Education’ or Value-Based Education. This can be done by involving students in community service, by involving them in tree plantation and such other meaningful activities.

Integrating spirituality with work is all the more important today. It will help each one of us, to do the same work, that we are doing now, in a better manner.

There has to be an element of compassion for the people we serve through government, private sector or non-governmental organizations.

It will improve the outcomes of the various developmental programmes initiated by the government for the welfare of people. Most importantly, it will reduce corruption.

Stress has become an inseparable part of our life. Stress is taking a heavy toll on the health of the nation. At the root of various lifestyle diseases, there lies stress. ‘Sach Bharat’ can help us reduce stress and improve the quality of life of our people. It will eventually help us to achieve the goal of Swasth Bharat.

The government has introduced the CSR policy guidelines for large business organizations. Many organizations are doing good work for the community welfare through their CSR programmes. Some organizations are doing CSR work despite not making any profit. Giving a spiritual dimension to the CSR work will bring an element of passion to the work. We want businesses to put their hearts in the implementation of the CSR programmes.

    Ladies and gentlemen,

India has emerged as the most youthful nation in the world. We will have the largest number of youth in the age group of 19- 59. This young India, powered by spiritual values, will have the power not only to change the course of destiny of the nation, but also change the destiny of the entire world.

Sach Bharat will ensure honesty, devotion and righteousness in work. It will ensure that development reaches the last person in the country and achieve the goal of Antyodaya.

Sach Bharat will help India take its rightful place in the comity of nations. ‘Sach Bharat’ will help India become a Jagat Guru as visualized by Swami Vivekananda.

I wish to see Sach Bharat becoming a mass movement led by the business community and involving one and all.

I congratulate the organizers of the Sach Bharat Confluence and appreciate their effort to promote the culture of work with devotion for the growth of the nation. I wish you success in your future endeavours.

    Thank You

Jai Hind ! Jai Maharashtra !!
