    Governor inaugurates Flag Day for the Blind; Assures full support for welfare activities for the blind

    The Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari today inaugurated the All India Flag Day for the Blind by making his donation to the Flag Fund at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai.

    The Flag Fund Collection Drive was launched by the Maharashtra Unit of the National Association for the Blind, an organization working for the education, skill development and rehabilitation of the blind and visually impaired.

    Stating that the visually impaired and Divyang persons are qualifying civil services examinations and doing well as entrepreneurs, the Governor said that he will extend his full support to NAB in implementation of its various projects in Maharashtra aimed at the empowerment of visually impaired persons.

    President of NAB Maharashtra Rameshwar Kalantri sought the Governor’s intervention in getting government grants for the education of 25 visually impaired girls studying at the Visually Impaired Residential School for Girls being run by NAB at Nashik. Stating that NAB has created a Sensory Garden for the knowledge and entertainment of visually impaired persons at Nashik, Kalantri demanded creation of similar Sensory Gardens for the blind in all districts of Maharashtra.

    The Governor released Divyang entrepreneur Bhavesh Bhatia’s book ‘Ruk Jana Nahi’ on this occasion. Office bearers of NAB Maharashtra were present.
