Address by Shri Ch Vidyasagar Rao, Governor of Maharashtra at Reception hosted for NCC Cadets returning from Republic Day Camp (Held in New delhi) at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai at 1600 hrs on Thurssday, 4th February 2016
Major General D S Gill, Additional Director General, National Cadet Corps, officers and trainers of Maharashtra NCC, Culture and Art Directors, Coordinators and my dear Cadets,
It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to Raj Bhavan. I have invited you especially to tell you that I am proud of you. Maharashtra is proud of you and the Nation is proud of you. I was impressed by your wonderful performance and inspiring presentation today and in the Republic Day Camp that concluded in New Delhi recently.
I am immensely delighted that at a young age, you got the honour of representing the State of Maharashtra in the Prime Minister’s Rally and the Republic Day Parade and bringing laurels to our State.
Maharashtra NCC is looked up in the entire country as the best Directorate having the unique distinction of winning the Prime Minister’s Banner and Trophy 17 times since introduction of the banner.
I congratulate Maharashtra NCC, its officers and to each one of you for bringing a rich hauls of trophies and medals in various individual and team events.
Keeping up with its long established tradition, the Maharashtra Directorate was adjudged the Best Directorate in Drill Competition (Senior Wing) and in the Ballet Competition.
I was happy to note that the Maharashtra Naval Unit won the Most Enterprising Naval Unit for 2016.
India is the youngest nations in the world and you are the future of the nation. The future of the nation will depend on how you evolve yourselves, how you contribute to the nation’s progress and development and how you make use of your potential and qualities to help others.
The NCC is one of our most respected organisations, that has imbibed discipline, dedication and an urge to serve the nation among the youth for the last several decades.
Addressing the cadets at last year’s NCC Republic Day camp, the Hon’ble Prime Minister had appealed to you to create a world record of yoga in the Yoga Day.
I am proud to note that the National Cadet Corps accepted the challenge and created a world record of the ‘Largest Yoga performance simultaneously by a single uniformed youth organisation’ at multiple venues on International Day of Yoga (June 21).
A record 9,50,210 NCC cadets performed Yoga simultaneously at 1,767 venues across India on June 21. That is the strength of NCC and that is the strength of the youths of India. If you decide something, nothing is impossible for you.
It reaffirms my faith that India will be the best nation in the world if the qualities you acquire as NCC cadets could be imbibed on every youth of our country.
I want you to remind you that once a cadet, always a cadet. You may be finishing your NCC training, but you will never cease to be a cadet. The qualities of discipline and patriotism must remain alive in your heart all your life. Today I wish to share with you a couple of expectations from you.
I want each one of you to become the agents of change in society. You must be providing leadership to society in whichever area you work or study.
The Hon’ble Prime Minister has launched the programme Stand Up India, Start Up India. I want some of you to dream of becoming enterpreneurs. India does not need job seekers, the nation wants job creators who will wipe out poverty from the face of India.
Secondly, I expect you to refrain from any kind of addictions that are harmful to you and to society at large. In fact you should prevent others who are falling victims to addictions. Addiction is more dangerous than even cancer.
The NCC Maharashtra has been rendering a yeoman’s service to the nation by grooming an training one lakh youths from Maharashtra coming from 484 colleges and 797 schools covering the remotest areas of the State.
I call upon the NCC to resolve to work with the same zeal, valour and dedication for which you are known, to make India a leader in the world.
I congratulate the Maharashtra NCC, its officers and cadets for your success in the Republic Day Camp and wish you Godspeed in your future endaeavuors.
Jai Hind Jai Maharashtra
