    “Double efforts to meet target of houses for rural poor” Governor tells State officials

    Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari today asked the Chief Executive Officers and Block Development Officers of Zilla Parishads to double their efforts to meet the target of building houses for the rural poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and various State sponsored housing schemes.

    Stating that the effectiveness of implemnetaion of any scheme depends on passion and commitment of officials, he asked officials to resolve to build 7 lakh houses for the rural poor in Maharashtra within the next 3 years.

    The Governor was speaking at a felicitation function organized by Government of Maharashtra on the occasion of ‘Awas Diwas’ in Mumbai on Wednesday (20th Nov). Officials of districts, villages and blocks doing outstanding work of building houses for the rural poor were felicitated. Beneficiaries of housing were also felicitated.

    The Governor said during the last few years, a record 30 crore bank accounts were opened, many villages were electrified and several villages became open – defecation free. Stating that the Government wants to provide potable drinking water to every household by 2024, he asked officials to do their work with motherly love and affection.

    Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta, citing world bank reports said, housing improves sanitation, health, education and income levels and curbs migration. He asked officials to step up their efforts to provide land and housing loan to people on priority to achieve the goal of housing for all.

    Officials of Nashik, Thane, Nandurbar, Dhule, Solapur, Amravati and other districts were felicitated by the Governor.

    Principal Secretary of Tribal Development Department Manisha Varma, Principal Secretary, Social Justice Dinesh Waghmare, Director in charge of Implementation of Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana Rural Dhananjay Mali and others were present.
