    Introduction

    The Governor of Maharashtra is the Constitutional Head of the State of Maharashtra and exercises powers as defined in the Constitution of India. The Governor is also the ex-official Chancellor of universities in the State. The Governor of Maharashtra also has special responsibility under Article 371(2) of the Constitution pertaining to the development of various regions of the State and Schedule V of the Constitution pertaining to the administration of scheduled areas.

    The Governor’s Secretariat provides secretarial assistance to the Governor in discharging his constitutional, ceremonial, and other State responsibilities and his duties as the Chancellor of universities in the State.

    The Governor’s Secretariat is headed by the Secretary to the Governor who is assisted by a team of officers and staff as per details available under the head “Organization”. The Governor’s Secretariat includes the Secretariat and Household establishments.

    There are in all FOUR Governor’s Houses in Maharashtra State, commonly known as “Raj Bhavan Mumbai”, “Raj Bhavan Pune”, ‘Raj Bhavan Nagpur”, and “Raj Bhavan Mahabaleshwar”. The Governor’s Secretariat is located at Governor’s House Raj Bhavan Mumbai.
