‘We should not be environmentally fanatic’: Governor C P Radhakrishnan
Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan has said that there is a need to strike a fine balance between development and environment concerns. Stating that protection of the environment is receiving high priority, he said we should not be ‘environmentally fanatic’ when it comes to addressing the real problems of the people.
The Governor was speaking at a Conference on ‘Lifestyle for Environment: Bharatiya Perspective on Sustainability’ at National Stock Exchange Convention Centre in Mumbai on Wed (27 Nov).
The Conference was organised by the Govardhan Eco Village in association with Kotak School of Sustainability, IGBC, NIT Warangal and other organisations.
The Governor said, Indian spirituality and festivals underscore sustainable practices. Worshiping rivers, mountains, and trees is not mere ritualism but a reminder of their indispensable role in sustaining life.
The Governor said Indian culture teaches us that we are not the owner of this planet but merely its trustee. He said the earth is not to be owned but nurtured and passed on, in all its richness, to future generations.
According to him, this perspective of trusteeship aligns beautifully with the principles of sustainability and forms the foundation of a holistic approach to development.
‘Riverman of India’ Raman Kant and Director of Govardhan Eco Village Gauranga Das were prominent among those present.
