    26.05.2026: Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma launched the 'TB Mukt Mumbai' Campaign to be implemented by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation at Lokmanya Tilak Hospital Sion in Mumbai. The 'TB Mukt Mumbai' campaign, a part of the 'TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was launched by BMC at the instance of Lok Bhavan with focus on the slum areas of Mumbai. The inauguration of the ‘TB Free Mumbai’ campaign, organized on the initiative of Maharashtra Lok Bhavan, was attended by Mayor Ritu Tawde, Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi, MLA Captain Tamil Selvan, MLA Dr. Jyoti Gaikwad, MLA Sunil Shinde, Chairman of the Municipal Corporation’s Public Health Committee Harish Bhandirge, Chairperson of the Education Committee Rajeshree Shirwadkar, Vice Chairman of the Market and Garden Committee Bhaskar Shetty, AMC (Suburbs) Vipin Sharma, Secretary to the Governor Dr. Prashant Narnaware, doctors, ASHA workers and officials of the Municipal Corporation. The Governor released an information booklet ‘TB Mukt Mumbai’ Abhiyan on the occasion. Earlier, the Governor visited the Eknathrao Gaikwad Health Centre in Dharavi, where he interacted with TB officers, doctors, staff members and ASHA workers, and distributed nutrition kits to TB patients. During the programme, the Governor also accepted responsibility for providing nutritional support to 30 tuberculosis patients. In recognition of this gesture, Mayor Ritu Tawde presented the Governor with a 'Nikshay Mitra' certificate.

    The inauguration of the ‘TB Free Mumbai’ campaign, organized on the initiative of Maharashtra Lok Bhavan, was attended by Mayor Ritu Tawde, Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi, MLA Captain Tamil Selvan, MLA Dr. Jyoti Gaikwad, MLA Sunil Shinde, Chairman of the Municipal Corporation’s Public Health Committee Harish Bhandirge, Chairperson of the Education Committee Rajeshree Shirwadkar, Vice Chairman of the Market and Garden Committee Bhaskar Shetty, AMC (Suburbs) Vipin Sharma, Secretary to the Governor Dr. Prashant Narnaware, doctors, ASHA workers and officials of the Municipal Corporation.

    The Governor observed that due to the extremely high population density in Mumbai, there is increasing the risk of the spread of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis.

    In such a situation, public awareness about TB and timely diagnosis of the disease become extremely important, he added.

    “If we succeed in making Mumbai TB-free, it will not only be an example for India, but for the entire world. It will further strengthen Mumbai’s global image and send out a message that any challenge can be overcome through public participation and effective administration,” he said.

    The Governor said that students from universities and colleges, Indian Red Cross Society, NCC cadets, volunteers of ‘My Yuva Bharat’, NGOs and various social organizations would actively participate in the campaign at different stages.

    “When a campaign develops both personal and collective involvement among people, the chances of its success increase manifold. I am confident that the citizens of Mumbai, with their sensitivity, discipline and sense of social responsibility, will make this campaign a success,” the Governor said.

    “To build a ‘Viksit Bharat’, we must create a ‘Healthy Bharat’. And for a healthy India, we must build a TB-free India. A TB-free India will become possible only when we achieve the goal of a TB-free Mumbai,” the Governor added.

    The Governor released an information booklet ‘TB Mukt Mumbai’ Abhiyan on the occasion. He felicitated NGOs supporting TB Mukt Bharat Campaign and supporing Nikshay Mitras.
