Maharashtra Governor attends 219th Foundation Day of Asiatic Society

The 219th Foundation Day of Asiatic Society of Mumbai was celebrated in presence of Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais at the Society’s premises in Mumbai on Sat (25 Nov). The Governor conferred the Honorary Fellowships and Medals to 8 renowned scholars on the occasion. The 91st Volume of Asiatic Society’s Journal was released by the Governor.

Director General of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Dr Sabyasachi Mukherjee, President of Asiatic Society Mumbai Prof Vispi Balaporia, Vice President Shehernaz Nalwalla, Hon Secretary Mangal Sirdeshpande and others were present.

Dr Saryu Doshi (Indian Art, History and Culture), Dr Anura Manatunga (Author and Curator – Art History), Prof Noboyushi Namabe (Buddhist Studies), Prof Gopal Krishna Kanhere (Silver Medal for Published Work) and Prof Brajakishore Swain (Dharma Shastra : Mahamahopadhyaya Dr P V Kane Gold Medal). Three awardees music composer Zubin Mehta, Prof Upinder Singh and Dr Subhash Chandra Malik were absent.
