Governor Koshyari, CJ Datta inaugurate new Law College in Juhu Vile Parle

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari accompanied by the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Justice Dipankar Datta inaugurated the newly established Adhia College of Law at Juhu Vile Parle, Mumbai on Sunday (13 Mar).

The Adhia College of Law is managed by the Matushri Kanbai Lalbai & Motibai Lohana Kanyashala & Balikagruh also known as Ma Kanbai Vidyadham, an educational institution set up in 1906.

Wife of the Chief Justice Jhuma Datta, Chairman of the Ma Kanbai Vidyadham Adv Mahendra Ghelani, trustees Jayant Ghelani, Janak Thacker, Dr Minu Madlani, MP Manoj Kotak, MLA Parag Alavani, lawyer Satish Maneshinde, members of faculty, students and invitees were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Koshyari expressed the need to review and dispense with the old and archaic laws legislated during the British era that are still being used in the country.

He called upon the law students to expand the horizon of their knowledge by reading beyond textbooks and appealed to them to study Indian Jurisprudence. Mentioning that the national education policy lays thrust on education in the regional languages, he expressed the need to create law textbooks in regional languages.

Chief Justice Dipankar Datta told the students that he had the honour of becoming the student of the first batch of the 5 year degree course in law to be elevated as Chief Justice. Mentioning that there is no end to learning, Justice Datta said the entire life of a judge is like a student, who keeps learning interpretation of laws.

Appealing to the students to acquire education to serve the nation, Justice Datta called upon law schools and universities to provide the students exposure to oral and written communication skills. He asked them to organize group discussions, elocution competitions, Seminars, Guest lectures, projects and workshops for the benefit of students.
