Maharashtra Governor stresses need to create transparent system to select University, College teachers on merit
Maharashtra Governor and Chancellor of state universities C.P. Radhakrishnan today expressed the need to create a transparent system to select University and College teachers ‘purely on merit’. Stating that teaching is a noble profession, he said the selection process should be transparent and based on efficiency.
The Governor was addressing the Annual Convocation of the 168 – year old University of Mumbai at the Cowasjee Jehangir Hall at the University Campus in Mumbai on Tue (7 Jan).
The Governor said he has told vice chancellors to print annual academic calendars and observe the calendars scrupulously. He said Convocations of the University should be held within one month after the declaration of results.
Maharashtra Ministers Chandrakant Patil and Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Secretary Department of Science and Technology Government of India Prof Abhay Karandikar, President of St Louis University USA Dr Fred Pestello, VC of University of Mumbai Prof Ravindra Kulkarni, PRO VC Ajay Bhamare, officials, graduating students and invitees were present.
Degrees were conferred upon 1,64,465 candidates. While Ph.Ds degrees were awarded to 401 candidates, Gold Medals were presented to 18 candidates.
