    Afghanistan’s First woman Consul General in Mumbai Zakia Wardak meets Governor Koshyari

    The newly appointed Consul General of Afghanistan in Mumbai, – the country’s first woman Consul General in Mumbai – Zakia Wardak called on Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Monday (5 Oct)

    Thanking India for its help in constructing the parliament building in Afghanistan and providing education scholarship to a large number of students from Afghanistan, the Consul General said she is keen to promote bilateral trade between India and Afghanistan during her tenure.

    The Consul General told the Governor that the trade between India and Afghanistan can grow significantly with the opening of the Chabahar port. She said it will be her endeavor to promote the Chabahar port route, which has direct links with Nhava Sheva and Kandla ports in India. Certain regulatory hurdles in the optimum utilization of the Chabahar port were also raised by the Consul General.

    Welcoming the Consul General, Governor Koshyari assured that he will use his good offices to resolve bilateral problems and promote trade between the two countries by seeking the intervention of Ministry of External Affairs.

    Stating that she has grown up in the midst of Indians, especially Sikhs in Afghanistan, Zakia Wardak remarked that there is no difference between the people of Afghanistan and India. She said Bollywood has done a good job of promoting Hindi language, which is understood by many in Afghanistan.
