Governor says joy of reading conventional books should not be allowed to be lost

Former Principal of Aryan High School, Mumbai Nilkanth Namjoshi called on the Governor of Maharashtra Jishnu Dev Varma at Lok Bhavan, Mumbai and presented him with a set of three books authored by him.

Namjoshi presented the Governor with ‘Mogara Phulala Dari’, a collection of short stories; ‘Smrutigandha’, a book compiling his correspondence with eminent personalities from various walks of life; and ‘Bheema’, a novel that narrates the inspiring story of a tribal girl’s achievements and her mother’s sacrifices. Members of Namjoshi’s family were present on the occasion.

Complimenting the author, the Governor said that writing a book gives wings to one’s thoughts and enriches the collective wisdom of humanity. A book never dies; it continues to inspire generations. He said that every author, through his or her writing, gives something meaningful back to society.

The Governor described Maharashtra as the land of saints, reformers and heroes, which has given the nation great personalities such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopal Krishna Gokhale and many others. He noted that the State also possesses a rich and enduring literary tradition.

The Governor observed that although we are living in the age of e-books and digital technology, conventional printed books continue to retain their unique value and relevance. He said that the joy and deeply personal experience of reading a printed book should never be allowed to fade away, as reading is, above all, an intimate and enriching personal experience.
