Governor wants city to host ‘Mumbai Shopping Festival’ on the lines of Dubai Festival
The Governor of Maharashtra CH. Vidyasagar Rao expressed the view that the city of Mumbai should organize a ‘Mumbai Shopping Festival’ on the lines of the Dubai Festival to promote business and tourism.
“With jewellery festival as the nucleus, the city of Mumbai should host a full-fledged ‘Mumbai Shopping Festival’ comprising various traders every year”, said the Governor.
Such festival, he felt, would attract thousands of tourists and visitors both from India and other countries of the world.
The Governor was speaking at the inauguration of the weeklong India Jewellery Festival at Zaveri Bazar in Mumbai on Monday (1 Oct).
The Jewellery Festival, a business to business meet of jewellers is being organized by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association, a 99-year old organization of bullion and jewellery business members. One hundered fifty jewelers are participating in the India Jewellery Festival.
Observing that women are the biggest consumers of gem and jewellery, the Governor appealed to the jewellers to make conscious efforts to involve women in Jewellery business and in decision-making bodies.
The Governor called upon the Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association to create an Innovation Hub to incubate fresh ideas for the growth of the business. He also laid stress on ensuring the welfare of artisans working in the jewellery sector.
The Governor called upon jewelers to conquer world markets by making India Jewellery a brand name known for quality, trust, beauty and affordability. The Governor unveiled the logo of the India Jewellers Festival on this occasion.
Member of Maharashtra State Legislature Raj Purohit, Corporator Akash Purohit, President of India Bullion and Jewellers Association Mohit Kamboj, Vice President Prithviraj Kothari, COO and Managing Director of Bombay Stock Exchange Ashish Chauhan and business leaders were present.
