Maharashtra Governor felicitates teachers of Johny Liver’s School
The Governor of Maharashtra CH. Vidyasagar Rao on Monday (18th) felicitated some of the retired teachers of Wadala’s Andhra Education Society’s High School, the alma mater of stand up comedian Johny Lever. Film star Tabbu was present as Guest of Honour.
Johny Lever who matriculated from the School in 1973 said that teachers of the Telugu medium School not only made them self-reliant individuals, but also loved them as their own children.
In a moving gesture towards his teachers, many of whom are in their eighties, Johny Lever presented to them a Gold memento. He also honoured the family members of teachers who have since passed away.
Complimenting the Andhra Education Society’s School for its services to society, Governor Vidyasagar Rao called upon the people to observe the ‘International Day of Mother Tongues’ on 21st February.
The Governor expressed concern that many schools offering education through Marathi, Telugu and other language mediums were closing down.
Former Principal Lalita Sarma and retired teachers A N Singh, Asha Bahutule, Asha Karle, Aruna Shrikrishna, K. Joseph and Subbhalakshmi Narayanan were felicitated by the Governor on the occasion.
Family members of teachers who have since passed away, including Murti, Punaiyya and Ms Shakuntala were also felicitated.
Johny Lever’s daughter Jamie Lever regaled the audience with her stand up comedy act.
