“Work in mission mode to protect promote languages of Uttarakhand” : Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari called upon the people of Uttarakhand to work in a mission mode to preserve and promote Gadhwarli, Kumauni and other languages of Uttarakhand. Stating that a language is learnt by hearing and speaking in it, he appealed to the people of Uttarakhand to bring Garhwali, Kumauni and other languages into practice and teach the languages to the young generation.
Governor Koshyari was inaugurating a Seminar on the theme of ‘Representative Language of Uttarakhand’ organised as part of the Uttarakhandi Bhasha Sammelan at Raj Bhavan Mumbai on Saturday (4 June).
The Governor said it is easy to organise agitations for language and to seek the patronage of the government, but it is difficult to promote and preserve a language. He said in his capacity as Chancellor of 22 public universities in Maharashtra, he mandated all universities to conduct their Convocation Ceremonies in Marathi. The Governor said the way Hindi language was promoted by Hindi cinema, Kumauni and Garhwali languages were enriched by their folk songs, films, documentaries, idioms and phrases.
Well known litterateur Dr Biharilal Jalandhari, Dr Asha Rawat, Dr Nilambar Pandey, Dr Rajeshwar Uniyal, senior journalist Ganesh Pathak, Convenor Chamu Singh Rana and compere Sanjay Balodi ‘Prakhar’ were prominent among those present. The Governor released Dr Jalandhari’s book ‘ Uttarakhand Ki Jana – Shrutiyan’ on the occasion.
