16.04.2026: President of India visits the ashram of the Mahatma Gandhi at Wardha

16.04.2026: President of India Droupadi Murmu visited the ashram of the Mahatma Gandhi, at Sewagram, Wardha. During her visit, she participated in a prayer meeting and planted a sapling on the premises. The President was accompanied by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, and Minister of State and Guardian Minister Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar. On behalf of the Ashram Pratishthan, Secretary Vijay Tambe and Trustee Chandanpal welcomed the President. During her tour, the President visited and inspected Bapu Kuti. She also visited ‘Ba’ Niwas, where Kasturba Gandhi resided, as well as Gandhiji’s then-office. She was briefed on Bapu’s lifestyle and various historical aspects of the residence. Additionally, the President engaged in spinning thread on a Charkha and concluded her visit by planting a Bel tree (Aegle marmelos) in the ashram precincts.
