    Outgoing and New Russian Consuls call on Governor

    The newly appointed Consul General of Russian Federation in Mumbai Alexei V. Surovtsev accompanied by outgoing Consul General Andrei N. Zhiltsov called on the Governor of Maharashtra CH. Vidyasagar Rao at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Wednesday (31st Oct).

    Speaking to the Governor, the new consul general Alexei Surovtsev said that direct air connectivity between Moscow and Mumbai and between St. Petersburg and Mumbai will open up new avenues of export for India including horticultural export.

    He said that Russia and India enjoy excellent cooperation in the areas of defence, energy and other sectors. Observing that the trade volume between the two countries is relatively low, he said his country will give a fresh impetus to promoting trade between India and Russian Federation. In this connection, he informed the Governor that a large delegation of business leaders from Moscow and other cities will be visiting New Delhi and Mumbai later this year.

    Welcoming the Russian Consuls, the Governor said that Maharashtra has tremendous potential in the sectors of infrastructure development, tourism and horticulture export. He assured his support for cooperation in the areas of student exchange at the university level. Outgoing Consul General Andrei Zhiltsov thanked the Government of Maharashtra for the cooperation he received during his 3 year tenure.
