    Maharashtra Governor pays tributes to police martyrs on Police Commemoration Day; meets family members of martyrs

    Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari today placed a wreath and offered tributes at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day.

    The Police Martyrs’ Commemoration Day function organised by the Directorate General of Maharashtra Police was held at the Naigaum Police Ground in Mumbai on Monday (21 Oct).

    The Governor read out a message paying tributes to the brave police officers and personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty on this occasion. The Governor then met the family members of the police martyrs.

    State Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta, Director General of Maharashtra Police Subodh Jaiswal and Commissioner of Mumbai Police Sanjay Barve also laid wreaths at the Martyrs’ Memorial on the occasion.

    The Commemoration Day started with the presentation of ‘Shok Shastra’. Names of 31 police officers and 261 police personnel from across the country who laid down their lives in the line of duty last year were read out.

    The parade presented a general salute and fired three rounds on this occasion. The programme concluded with the playing of the Bigular’s ‘Last Post’ and ‘Rouse’.

    Diplomats from various countries and senior serving and retired police officers were present on the occasion.
