    Governor calls for making Waghari River Rejuvenation model project

    The Governor of Maharashtra CH. Vidyasagar Rao today said that the Waghari River Rejuvenation Project to be taken up in Yavatmal district should be made a model project for the entire country. The Governor said saving river is no longer an option, but had become an imperative for the survival of people.

    The Governor was speaking after witnessing a presentation made by the Isha Foundation on the Waghari River Rejuvenation Project at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Wednesday (8th). Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Founder of Isha Foundation Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev and Finance, Planning and Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar were present.

    Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the government agrees ‘in principle’ to the River Rejuvenation Plan and to the creation of a Special Purpose Vehicle for the Waghari River Rejuvenation Project.

    Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, the Founder of Isha Foundation said economy and ecology go hand in hand. He said, rejuvenation of rivers through plantation of trees on either sides of the river stream will increase the income of farmers five times.

    Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, Chief Secretary D. K. Jain, ACS Finance U.P.S. Madan, ACS Agriculture & Marketing Vijay Kumar and ACS Planning Debashish Chakrabarty were among those present on the occasion.
