    Governor presents first Jagdeo Ram Oram memorial award to late Ramdas Gavit

    Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari presented the first ‘Shri Jagdeo Ram Oram Memorial Award 2021’ of Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram to the full time activist of the Ashram from Nashik late Ramdas Punjaram Gavit posthumously.

    The award was accepted by Smt Yashoda Gavit, wife of late Ramdas Gavit and Dr Harshvardhan Gavit, son at a programme held at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Saturday (31st July). The Governor also released a pictorial biographical book ‘Hamare Jagdeo Ram’ on the occasion.

    Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that founding fathers of the Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram including late Balasaheb Deshpande, Jagdeo Ram Oram and Ramdas Gavit dedicated their entire life for the upliftment of the forest residing tribal communities. He said carrying forward their legacy of the work of tribals would be a real tribute to them.

    President of the All India Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram Ramchandra Kharadi, Vice President of Maharashtra chapter of Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram Sonu Mhase, Mumbai Mahanagar President Mukundrao Chitale were prominent among those present.

    Ramdas Gavit born at village Devali Karad in the Surgana taluka of Nashik district was a full time activist of the Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram for 36 years. He passed away on 2nd June 2021 aged 55.
