Clean up campaign at Juhu Beach on International Coastal Clean- up day
Cleanliness should become a habit – Governor CP Radhakrishnan
It is the responsibility of everybody to keep beaches clean

Mumbai, September 21: “Today is the day for public awareness regarding cleaning up of the coastal region and this initiative of cleaning- up will be shaping the concept of Swachh Bharat-Mahan Bharat as every big task begins with small things,” said governor CP Radhakrishnan. Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde said that it is the responsibility of each and everybody to keep the beaches, sea coasts clean.
The international Coastal Clean-up Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of September month in order to create awareness for keeping the coastal regions clean. The cleanliness program was jointly organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and climate change and ministry for Labor and Employment, Government of Maharashtra, BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Pollution Control Board (PCB) at the Juhu Beach area.
The Union Minister for environment, forest and climate change Bhupendra Yadav, guardian minister of Mumbai city district Deepak Kesarkar, guardian minister of Mumbai sub- urban district Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Member of Parliament Ravindra Waikar, legislator Amit Satam, Chairman of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board Siddhesh Kadam, special secretary of union forest and environment department Tanmay Kumar, additional commissioner of BrihanMumbai municipal corporation Dr Ashwini Joshi, principal secretary of environment and climate change department Praveen Darade, member secretary of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board Dr Avinash Dhakne and other dignitaries were also present during the program.
Expressing satisfaction at the presence of students in large numbers during the cleanliness campaign, governor C P Radhakrishnan said that it is a matter of appreciation that awareness regarding cleanliness is being created among the youth. He further said that the sewage water should be processed before it is discharged into the oceans, adding that our goal is keeping the sea beaches free from plastic. He said that whatever is being given to us by nature should be returned in the clean and purest form. He also said that the state government will be extending its whole hearted cooperation in the campaign of the union government for banning the single use plastic.
Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started the Swachh Bharat campaign in the entire nation. He said that ‘Cleanliness is Service’ fortnight has been recently inaugurated in the state and this campaign is implemented at 4 thousand 500 sports in the state. He said that the state has a 720 km long coastal region which adds to the natural beauty of the state. Mr Shinde said that the tourists across the world give priority to the clean beaches and coastal areas and hence it is the responsibility of each and everybody to keep them clean.
He said that ‘Deep Clean’ drive is implemented in Mumbai and it will be resumed after the monsoon season is over. The chief minister underlined that due to this ‘Deep clean’ drive, there has been a huge decline in the pollution in the state.
Stating that Mumbai is the city of International standard, the Chief Minister made an appeal that the entire machinery of the government, social organizations and civilians should come together to keep the city and the beaches clean. The Chief Minister administered a cleanliness pledge to all those present on the occasion.
Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav said that the awareness campaign is implemented in the entire world for cleaning up the coastal areas. He said that the cleanliness fortnight is implemented in the whole nation and appealed to take efforts for making India clean and respond to the ‘Mission Life’ concept of prime minister Shri Narendra Modi. He also appealed to the people to participate in Prime Ministers ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’ initiative and plant at least one tree. The union minister also announced that the central government will be extending its assistance to the water recycling startups.
Principal secretary Praveen Darade gave information about the cleanliness along the coastal areas and said that all the Chowpatty in Mumbai are regularly cleaned up by the BrihanMumbai municipal corporation using modern equipment. Tanmay Kumar gave information about measures taken by the union government for cleanliness. A booklet by the union government regarding the cleaning of Coastal areas was also released at the hands of the dignitaries. Dr Dhakne proposed the vote of thanks to all those who participated in the campaign.
Governor, Chief Minister and other dignitaries, social organizations, students, employees of BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation and other civilians cleaned the Juhu Beach using modern equipment.
