Tribal Development Minister, MLAs and Officials meet Governor
Tribal MLAs express happiness over the State getting a Governor from the tribal community
A delegation comprising Tribal Development Minister Dr. Ashok Uike, MLAs from tribal regions, and senior officials of the Tribal Development Department met Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at Maharashtra Lok Bhavan Mumbai on Wednesday (18 March) and discussed various issues related to tribal development.
The people’s representatives expressed happiness that, for the first time, the State has a Governor from the tribal community, which according to them would help address the concerns of tribal people more effectively.
The Governor noted that tribal communities across the country have made significant contributions to India’s freedom struggle. He suggested preparing short booklets highlighting the lives and contributions of tribal revolutionaries.
He further recommended that, in collaboration with the State’s Cultural Department, short plays and street plays depicting the lives and work of tribal revolutionaries be developed, involving tribal singers, artists, and poets. Such initiatives would help the younger generation better understand tribal heritage and contributions.
Describing women’s self-help groups as a powerful movement for women’s empowerment, the Governor directed the Tribal Development Department to compile detailed information on the number and activities of such groups in tribal areas of the State.
He also asked for reports on the status of tuberculosis eradication in tribal regions and the prevalence of anemia among tribal women.
The Governor instructed the Tribal Development Minister to bring tribal poets, writers, singers, social workers, and environmental activists to Lok Bhavan for interaction.
MLAs Harishchandra Bhoye, Rajesh Padvi, Bhimrao Keram, Kevalram Kave, Raju Todsam, and former Minister Rajendra Gavit were present at the meeting.
On the occasion, Tribal Development Commissioner Leena Bansode and Commissioner of the Tribal Research and Training Institute Manjiri Manolkar made presentations before the Governor.
