The Raj Bhavan, the official residence of Governor of Maharashtra will be illuminated by bamboo made Akash Kandils prepared by tribal women from Palghar district this year.

In a bid to promote rural bamboo products prepared by tribal women in Maharashtra, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari presented the bamboo Sky Lamps prepared by tribal women to the entire staff of Raj Bhavan on Thursday (12 Nov).

The bamboo sky lamps alongwith sweets were distributed by the Governor to nearly 200 staff members at Raj Bhavan this morning.

Extending Diwali greetings to the staff, Koshyari said Governors come and go. But the responsibility of maintaining the dignity and beauty of Raj Bhavan rests with its permanent staff members. He appealed to the staff to celebrate a safe, eco friendly and pollution free Diwali in view of the Covid pandemic threat.

The Governor had visited the Bamboo project run by the Vivek Rural Development Centre in Palghar district in February this year. He had appealed to the people to buy the bamboo products manufactured by tribal women to support their income and livelihood and had announced that he will make a beginning to buy the products from Raj Bhavan.
