    Justice Chandrashekhar sworn in as CJ of Bombay HC

    Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Bombay Justice Shree Chandrashekhar was today sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.

    Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office to Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar at a brief swearing-in ceremony held at Darbar Hall in Raj Bhavan Mumbai on Friday (5 Sept).

    After countersigning the oath signed by the Chief Justice, the Governor presented a bouquet of flowers to the Chief Justice and congratulated him. The Chief Minister also congratulated the Chief Justice.

    Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Rahul Narwekar, Minister of Skill Development Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister of Protocol Jaykumar Rawal, judges of the Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Delhi, Allahabad and Bombay High Court, retired judges and senior government officers were present.

    Earlier Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar read out the Notification of Appointment of the Chief Justice issued by Government of India.

    The swearing in ceremony started with the rendition of the National Anthem and State Song and concluded with the playing of the National Anthem by the police band.

    Biodata of Justice Chandrashekhar

    Justice Shree Chandrashekhar was born on 25th May, 1965. He completed his LL.B. course from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi in the year 1993 and was enrolled as an Advocate with the Delhi State Bar Council on 9th December 1993. He started his practice at Delhi on both Criminal and Civil sides. In about 19 years of practice as an Advocate in different Courts, he conducted about 3500 cases, mostly in the Supreme Court of India. There are about 140 reported judgments of the Supreme Court in which he appeared as a counsel. He was standing Counsel for All India Council for Technical Education and the State of Jharkhand in the Supreme Court. He represented Bihar State Housing Board, Bihar State Pollution Control Board, Jharkhand State Electricity Board, Indian Council of Agricultural Research and various other Corporations/Institutes besides, being the retained counsel for private companies.

    He was appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi on 17th January 2013 and, as permanent Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi on 27th June 2014. He served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court from 29 December 2023 to 4 July 2024.

    He was appointed as the Judge of the Bombay High Court and took charge as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Bombay after Justice Alok Aradhye was promoted as the Judge of the Supreme Court.
