“Classical Language: Language of Dnyaneshwar, Shivaji Maharaj got its due recognition” : Governor C P Radhakrishnan

Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan has expressed joy and thanked the Prime Minister of India for according the Classical Language Status to Marathi along with 4 other languages.

In a message, the Governor has said:

“This is a day that will remain etched in the history of Maharashtra and that of the sweet Marathi language.

The due recognition of the language of Sant Dnyaneshwar, Sant Chakradhar Swami, Sant Tukaram and many other Saints and Social Reformers of Maharashtra…the mother tongue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Phule, Savitribai Phule, Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj. Lokmanya Tilak, Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar and numerous freedom fighters and revolutionaries, makes the decision all the more special.

I am grateful to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for giving the much awaited Classical language status to Marathi.

I am also happy that Pali and Prakrit, Bengali and Assamese too have been accorded Classical language status.

Indeed, I am sure after the Cabinet decision on recognising them as Classical Languages, more people, especially the youth and the children will be encouraged to learn, read and speak these languages.

I congratulate the people of Maharashtra and the Marathi speaking people from across the world on this momentous occasion

On behalf of the 12 Crore people of Maharashtra, I convey our grateful thanks to the Union Cabinet and particularly to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi ji.”
