Nagaland Day and Assam Day celebrated in Maharashtra
Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan presided over the joint celebration of the Nagaland (1 Dec) and Assam (2 Dec) State Formation Days at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai on Sun (1 Dec).
The Nagaland and Assam State Formation Day was celebrated as part of the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative of Government of India.
Congratulating the people of Nagaland and Assam on their State Formation Days, Maharashtra Governor Radhakrishnan said Nagaland and Assam have made tremendous strides in education, employment, and tourism since their formation. He said both states are blessed with unparalleled natural beauty and resources, and their progress is a source of pride for the entire nation.
Stating that in order to understand and appreciate a state and its people, one must visit that State and experience its culture firsthand. The Governor called upon the people of the State to visit Nagaland and Assam and to live among the people. This according to him will foster the spirit of friendship and unity that is essential for national integration.
The State Formation Day was organised by Maharashtra Raj Bhavan in association with the SNDT Women’s University and ‘Ishwarpuram’ an organisation working for the education and empowerment of youths from the North Eastern States.
Students from Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh performed the famous bamboo dance under the aegis of Ishwarpuram. The students of SNDT Women’s University performed the Santhali dance and sang the Assamese folk song on the occasion.
The Governor felicitated Prof. Ujwala Chakradeo, Vice Chancellor of SNDT Women’s University, Prof Ruby Ojha, Vineet Kuber, President of ‘Ishwarpuram’ Prashant Joshi, Founder Member ‘Ishwarpuram’ and students and artists.
