Dr. Venkat Gite to be new Vice Chancellor of MUHS
The Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of Universities in the State Jishnu Dev Varma has appointed Dr. Venkat Shahubai Arjunrao Gite as the new Vice Chancellor of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik.
Dr. Venkat Gite (DoB. 1 Jan 1974) presently serving as the Dean of Government Medical College (GMC), Nashik has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor for a term of five years.
He succeeds Lt. Gen. Dr. Madhuri Kanitkar whose term as Vice Chancellor ended on 14th October 2025. Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, the Vice-Chancellor of the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University was holding the additional charge of the post of Vice Chancellor, MUHS.
Dr. Gite obtained his MS (Surgery) in 2001 and DNB (Urology) in 2010. He has served as the Professor and Head of the Department of Urology, Government Medical Collegeand Superspeciality Block at , Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar . Additionally he has been serving as the Dean, Government Medical College at Nashik. He has pioneered the Cadaver Renal Transplant programme in Government set up. He is an advisory member to the transplant programme of the Department of Health Government of Maharashtra. Dr. Gite has made significant contributions to medical education and research, with 53 research publications, 6 books to his credit.
The Governor had constituted a Search Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. C. E. Eapen, Professor, Christian Medical College, Vellore to select a suitable candidate for the post of vice chancellor of MUHS. Secretary to the Government, Medical Education & Drugs Department Dheeraj Kumar and Director, ICMR-National Institute of Malaria Research Dr. Anupkumar R. Anvikar were other members of the Committee.
The Governor announced the name of Dr. Gite after personally interviewing all the candidates recommended by the Committee.
