Dr. Rajanish Kamat to be new Vice Chancellor of Shivaji University

The Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of Universities in the State Jishnu Dev Varma today appointed Dr. Rajanish Kamalakar Kamat as the new Vice Chancellor of the Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

Dr. Rajanish Kamat who is serving as the Vice Chancellor of Dr. Homi Bhabha State University, Mumbai has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor for a term of five years, or until he attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.

Dr. Rajanish Kamat succeeds Dr D T Shirke whose term as Vice Chancellor ended on 7th October 2025. Prof.(Dr.) Suresh Gosavi, Vice Chancellor of the Savitribai Phule Pune University was holding the additional charge of the post of Vice Chancellor, Shivaji University.

Dr Kamat holds an M.Sc. (Electronics) from Shivaji University and Ph.D. from Goa University. He has vast experience of teaching, research and administration.

The Governor had constituted a Search Committee under the chairmanship of Professor and Head (retd) of the Department of Mathematics of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore Dr. P. Kandaswamy.

Former Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya, Vishwavidyalaya (MP) Prof. N.C. Gautam was UGC nominee on the Committee.

Director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indore, Dr. Suhas Joshi and Additional Chief Secretary of Higher and Technical Education Department B. Venugopal Reddy were other members of the Committee.

The Governor announced the name of Dr. Rajanish Kamat after personally interviewing all the candidates recommended by the Committee. (Contact number of Dr. Rajanish Kamat 8850860800)
