The President of United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis met Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais at Raj Bhavan Mumbai on Fri (26 Jan). India’s representative at the UN Ruchira Kamboj was also present.
Speaking on the occasion the UNGA President said it is accepted that the UN Security Council is not representative of the modern structure of political dynamism and global order. President Dennis Francis said on behalf of the General Assembly he thanks India for contributing the largest number of peacekeepers to UN missions, including women peacekeepers. He described India as a reliable partner of the UN.
Welcoming the UNGA President to Maharashtra, Governor Ramesh Bais said India looks forward to his support for India’s call for reforms of the United Nations through the expansion of the UN Security Council in both permanent and non permanent membership categories. The Governor said as a nation of 1.4 billion people and a strong parliamentary democracy, India deserves a seat in the United Nations Security Council.
