Israel Knesset Delegation meets Maharashtra Governor
The Speaker of the Israeli Parliament (Knesset) Amir Ohana accompanied by a high level Parliamentary delegation of Israel met Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Tue (4 April).
Referring to the strong bonds of relations existing between Israel and India, the Speaker said both countries would benefit if they combined their powers wisely. The Speaker said apart from Defence and Agriculture, Israel is assisting India in water conservation. He said India is the only country where the country has appointed a Water Attache. He said Israel is assisting India in the implementation of the Desalination Project in Mumbai and also in the Marathwada Water Grid Project.
The Speaker told the Governor of his meetings with the President of India, Vice President, Minister of External Affairs and Lok Sabha Speaker. He informed that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Knesset and Indian Parliament on sharing of knowledge and strengthening of relations.
The Speaker said Israeli company Amdocs is employing a staggering 12000 people at its office in Pune. He told the Governor that direct flights between Tel Aviv and Mumbai to be started soon will bring the people closer. He further informed that Israel is keen on making a film in association with the Indian film industry.
Speaker Amir Ohana told the Governor that his delegation visited the Taj Mahal Hotel, Chabad House and other places attacked by the terrorists. He assured that Israel will work with India to bring the perpetrators of terrorism to justice.
The Speaker thanked India for respecting the Jews, their culture and tradition for hundreds of years.
Welcoming the Israeli Speaker and his delegation to Maharashtra, the Governor said India has high admiration for Israel for its cooperation in agriculture, defence and irrigation. He spoke of promoting cooperation between Maharashtra and Israel at the University level.
Member of Parliament Michale Mordechai Biton, Parliamentarian Amit Halevy, Ambassador of Israel to India Naor Gilon and Consul General of Israel in Mumbai Kobbi Shoshani were among those present.
