“Maharashtra Governor calls for implementing the Jan Aushadhi Yojana in a mission mode”
Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais has called for implementing the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana in the small cities and villages of Maharashtra in a mission mode so that maximum people of the State are benefited by the affordable medicines provided through Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
The Governor was speaking at a ‘Jan Chetana Programme’ organised by Publice Health Department to celebrate the fifth ‘Jan Aushadhi Diwas’ as part of the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Yojana in Mumbai on Wed (8 Mar).
Union Minister of State for Public Health Dr. Bharati Pawar, Maharashtra’s Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Tanaji Sawant, Principal Secretary Public Health Sanjay Khandare, Secretary Nawin Sona and ASHA workers were present.
The Governor said the Jan Aushadhi Yojana has brought about a revolution in the field of affordable medicines. He said since its inception the scheme has saved the public money of Rs.20,000 crore. He said one in five persons across the world are using the medicines made in India.
Union Minister of State for Public Health Dr Bharati Pawar said Jan Aushadhi is proving to be a boon to the citizens of the country. She complimented the ASHA workers for being the pillars of the healthcare system.
Minister of Public Health Dr Tanaji Sawant said under the initiative ‘Mata Surakshit Tar Ghar Surakshit’, health parameters of 4.39 crore women from the State were assessed and free treatment started. He also said that under the ‘Jagruk Palak, Sudrudh Balak Scheme’ more than one crore children were examined. He said “Hirkani Kaksha’ will be made operational in all police stations across the State. The Minister called for increasing the honorarium of ASHA workers.
The Governor inaugurated through a digital platform an outlet of the ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra’ at Khune, Tq. Akkalkot in Solapur district.
The Governor presented the ‘Jan Aushadhi Jyoti’, ‘Jan Aushadhi Sarvashreshtha’ and ‘Jan Aushadhi Mitra’ awards and felicitated women officers, staff and ASHA workers who did excellent work in health service on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The programme was organised with the initiative of the Public Health Department of Government of Maharashtra.
