Governor Koshyari plants ‘Pride of India’ sapling in memory of Anerood Jugnauth

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari planted a sapling of Taman known as ‘The Pride of India’ in memory of the former Prime Minister and former President of Mauritius Sir Anerood Jugnauth at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Saturday (5 Jun).

Shri Anerood Jugnauth passed away in Mauritius recently and national mourning is being observed in his memory.

Noting that Sir Jugnauth had visited Raj Bhavan Maharashtra in the past, Governor Koshyari planted the sapling of Taman (Lagerstroemia speciosa), whose flower is the State flower of Maharashtra, in front of his residence at Raj Bhavan. The National Flag was flown at half mast at Raj Bhavan in respect of the departed Mauritian leader.

June 5 happens to be the World Environment Day. Officers and staff of Raj Bhavan also planted saplings on the lawns of Raj Bhavan.
