Governor takes serious note of delay in announcement of MU results; asks VC to declare all results before 31st July

Taking serious cognizance of the delay in declaration of results by the University of Mumbai, the Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of the University CH Vidyasagar Rao today directed Vice Chancellor of the University Dr Sanjay Deshmukh to declare all pending results by 31st July 2017. The Governor asked the Vice Chancellor to submit to him a detailed report in accordance with the provisions of Section 89 of Maharashtra Public Universities Act, explaining the strategy and road map for declaration of results on time.

The Governor directed the Vice-Chancellor to set up a war room at his level, wherein the Vice-Chancellor along with other functionaries of the Universities, shall monitor the progress regarding declaration of results in real time.

He further directed the Vice-Chancellor that all the available human resource and infrastructure be brought together to carry out this task.

The Vice-Chancellor was further directed to submit a daily progress report to the Government and to the Chancellor’s Secretariat.

The Governor also directed the Additional Chief Secretary, Higher and Technical Education Sitaram Kunte to depute a Government representative to monitor the progress closely in real time and to give feedback to the Government and the Chancellor’s office.

The Governor noted with concern that out of 477 examinations conducted by the University of Mumbai, results of only 51 examinations had been declared so far. Even out of these 51 examinations, results of only 23 examinations were declared within 30 days while results of 18 examinations were declared within 45 days. All other results have been delayed beyond the statutory limit of 45 days.

According to provisions of Section 89 of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, the University is required to declare results preferably in 30 days and in no case beyond 45 days.

The Governor had a detailed discussion with the Vice Chancellor in presence of Additional Chief Secretary of Higher and Technical Education and the Governor’s Secretary Venugopal Reddy at Raj Bhavan today during which instructions were issued to the Vice Chancellor.

Taking serious note of reports from various sources, including media regarding inordinate delay in the declaration of results by the University of Mumbai for the Academic Year 2016-17, the Governor had convened the meeting.

The Governor reminded that delay in declaration of results could hamper the career of students, which might cause anxiety and hardships to them and to their parents. He therefore directed the Vice Chancellor to make all out efforts to declare results within the given time limit of 31st July 2017.
